Maine's South Coast

Maine’s South Coast & Coves
June 4 - 7, 2012 4 Days, 3 Nights

Day 1:
Travel to Ogunquit, Maine – which means "beautiful place by the sea". Check in to our South Coast hotel for a three night stay. Enjoy a wine and cheese welcome reception upon arrival at the Meadowmere Resort, which features indoor and outdoor pools, fitness center and a private movie theater. The resort is located a half mile from Ogunquit Village and the scenic cove area. Don your souvenir Maine lobster hat this evening for an included Lobster choice dinner at a nearby restaurant. (D)

Day 2:
Enjoy a deluxe continental breakfast this morning at the resort. Our first stop is Maine’s southernmost lighthouse in Cape Neddick. Stretch your legs and take in the picturesque view and salt air. Step back in time at Old York Village. Delight in the tales of the tavern-keeper, sip some apple cider and see an hearth cooking demonstration done in true Colonial style in historic York Village. Next, we stop for a view of the Stonewall Kitchens, manufacturers of Maine-made specialty condiments, jams and vinegars. The afternoon is free to explore Ogunquit Village and Ogunquit’s quaint Perkins Cove. Have lunch and dinner on own in one of the area’s fine restaurants. Information on restaurants, shopping, art galleries, the Ogunquit Playhouse and other activities will be provided upon arrival. The hotel is within walking distance of the famous "Marginal Way", a scenic walking path along the cliff between Perkins Cove and Ogunquit Village with benches along the way to sit and watch the surf. (B)

Day 3:
After an included deluxe continental breakfast, we travel to Kennebunkport where to board a special lobster tour boat and learn how the Maine lobstermen make their living. Experience authentic lobstering harvesting along the rocky coast, combined with the scenic beauty of the Maine shoreline with a first-hand lobstering viewing. There is free time for lunch on own and time to explore Dock Square, the waterfront shops and art galleries. This afternoon we meet our local guide for a narrated tour of Kennebunkport. Drive past the sandy beaches and rocky coastline, past the George Bush estate at Walker’s Point, hear the history of these shipbuilding towns and the legend of the Wedding Cake House. We visit the seaside Franciscan Monastery with its beautiful landscaping, outdoor shrines and chapel. Next, we take a ride into yesteryear and discover the heritage of America's Grand Trolley era at the Seashore Trolley Museum. Take a scenic ride through the Maine countryside on a restored streetcar. Our guide will then take us through the impressive exhibit barn with trolleys from the National Collection of American Streetcars where we learn where they operated and how they were restored. Dinner included tonight at one of our hideaway restaurants. (B, D)

A deluxe continental breakfast is included before we depart for home with Maine coastal memories! (B)
